WELCOME TO THE ETEE CLUB

Should We Use Compostable Stickers?

Thanks for your input.  So here are the questions I was hoping you could answer in the comments below.
  1. If you removed a lip balm cap sticker what would you do with it? (And let's assume you didn't know it was compostable, because it's hard to make it obvious that it is).
    • put it in the garbage?
    • put in in your commercial compost bin (and do you even have access to a commercial compost bin because you can't compost these in your backyard)?
  2. If you were us would you?
    • buy the cheaper plastic stickers?
    • buy the compostable plastic stickers (note: paper stickers usually have plastic reinforcements)
    • Stop stickering altogether, because what's the likelihood that someone will 'tamper' with the lip balm while it's being shipped from us to you?

And here's a little video if you'd like more background.

  • If it’s not being sold in a store there is no need for a sticker. If the outer packaging it’s mailed in is sealed I wouldn’t be at all concerned of it being tampered with. I’m conscious of my environmental impact and reduce, reuse, and recycle when I can. I’m not hard core about it though and would not go out of my way to make sure a small sticker gets composted. I should note that I don’t have access to commercial composting – the city I live in doesn’t care about the environment so compost bins are not a thing here. If I had easy access and knew the sticker was compostable I would compost it.

Bottom line: stickers are unnecessary. If you choose to use them, don’t spend extra on compostable ones.

  • I have been buying and using this lip balm since you came out with it. No sticker is needed in my opinion.

  • I will always pay more for eco-friendly products. Do you need a sticker at all?

  • Don’t use a sticker at all, takes care of the problem.

  • Why do you need a sticker at all? I buy lip balm from ethique and they don’t use a sticker at all.
