  • i committed in january to go as close to plastic free as i could. we were doing pretty well until covid. the refill place that i was getting hand, body & liquid soap, closed temporarily – back up in limited capacity. bought plenty of non-plastic veggie bags, but then couldn’t take bags into the grocery. we are having to get creative.

  • Hand sanitizer is only available in plastic bottles and hand-washing is not always an option.

  • The biggest challenge was the incredible number of plastic bags (underfilled, and/or double bagged) that grocery delivery services use. Since my husband started making trips to the store, its been ok. He keeps our bag of bags over his shoulder and bags the groceries himself in the vestibule before walking home from the store. That way the clerk just puts scanned items back in the cart and doesn’t touch our bags. Takeout plastic is still a challenge, but we only get takeout once every week or two. I was tempted to restart my favorite organic meal kits, but even though they are very recyclable, it’s still a lot of packaging to deal with, resources used.

  • The biggest challenge for me is grocery shopping. Our store refused to allow us to bring our reusable bags and we had to use plastic.

  • The biggest challenge for me has been grocery shopping. The bulk stores in my area no longer allow you to bring your own containers to fill (due to COVID), and the farmers markets have not been allowed to re-open as they may cause large gatherings. Having to buy food in plastic that I used to be able to get plastic free hurts my heart.
