  • My biggest challenge lately has been seeing the gloves and masks littered on the streets wherever I go.

  • I used to shop around to find plastic free products, but now I restrict myself to one stop shopping which has increased the amount of plastic that comes into the house. If I pre-order, even when I request paper bags, the groceries come in plastic bags. When I shop personally I get the cashier to put things straight into the cart and then I can bag them myself when I get to the car. However, I still have to purchase meats and toiletries packed in unnecessary plastic. There is a small corner fruit stand near me where I can buy fruit and vegetables. They allow us to take our own bags!

  • The most difficult part has been having to order online for a lot of items that I would normally run to the store for. We’re avoiding more bulk groceries as well, so the individually wrapped foods add up. My household is mostly trying to wash our hands rather than use a lot of hand sanitizer, but of course we’re using it more, thus more plastic bottles being used.

  • I tried using a meal kit service so that I wouldn’t have to go to the store. I didn’t like all of the plastic packaging.

  • I buy almost everything via mail now, so between bad packaging and stores not allowing reusable bags, it’s a lot harder to stay plastic-free.
