  • I have little kids and am (still) working as a frontline provider in the ICU, so I resort to takeout relatively frequently when the week at work is hectic. Recently, our favorite food delivery service changed from compostable packaging to plastic (probably because of concern for viral transmission I assume?) and it has been a big bummer.

  • Not being able to shop at the local farmers market because they were closed resulted in shopping for produce at regular markets that didn’t allow reusable bags. With bulk bins being closed I’ve had to buy normal staples like rice, grains, nuts, etc in pre-packaged bags. Farmers markets are starting to reopen but many farmers are only offering preweighed items already packaged in plastic. Because I prefer to support local farmers I still buy from them as I know this is only temporary. I do put all those bags in the recycling bin at a local store.

  • It has been frustrating being unable to use my reusable cloth shopping bags and my cloth produce bags. I despise plastic shopping bags. And going through so many cleaning products! I thought I was well stocked with supplies to make my own stuff…boy was I wrong. Wipes, sprays…everything comes in plastic 😞 We recycle of course, but it’s brutal. Then there’s the ordering stuff online because we can’t get it in store, or the store is closed. The “air-bags” are plastic, the tape is plastic, and now I’ve used the word plastic so many times it looks wrong. We’ve also run out of food ideas. Who knew that being unable to go out for dinner would make you think more 😉

  • The hardest thing has been plastic grocery bags. In our state, they would not let us use them for a while, and when I asked for paper bags, many times they didn’t have any. They also stopped recycling plastic bags (the bins where you you return them outside of grocery stores), so we had to use them in the store and then had to find a place to keep the plastic bags until they open the recycling back up. It was disturbing to have the visual of all the waste we were creating and no way to reduce or recycle it.
