  • The hardest challenge has been feeling the guilt of consuming more take-out food, which more often than not comes wrapped in bundles of plastic. My husband and I are trying to make trips to the grocery store infrequent for less exposure to the virus, and therefore we are commonly running out of ingredients for recipes. I also have been working longer days at work because of the virus, which means I have less energy for cooking, especially creative cooking to cope with missing ingredients. Both of these factors have meant we’ve upped our consumption of take-out restaurant food, and it’s frustrating to see and unhappily support the amount of single-use plastic used in this industry.

  • I’ve been ordering more takeout lately (I guess I was excited about more restaurants opening back up!) and it’s really disappointing when the food comes in plastic and styrofoam containers. It’s also been hard to stay plastic free when the bulk food sections are all closed off.

  • I work at starbucks. And I miss being able to bring in my reusable cup. At least I bring my straw. But it’s just not the same. Also using the plastic bags instead of the plates, for food. Its frustrating but I get it. I companies find a way to combated both problems.

  • Take out containers! I have been trying to support local businesses that have taken such a financial hit so I order out 1-2 times per week. But most of it comes in plastic containers. I had been doing so well with my attempt to rid my life of plastic but COVID has really set me back. COVID, you suck!

  • Having to have everything delivered has meant having very little personal control over packaging of food and basic necessities. Not being able to shop in person requires much time spent researching.
